Series 90™-30 IC693MDL660 GFK-2381 24VDC 32-Point Positive/Negative Logic Input Module March 2005 The 24 VDC Positive/Negative Logic Input module, IC693MDL660, provides 32 discrete input points. The inputs are positive or negative logic inputs and will operate at levels up to 30V. The inputs are arranged in four isolated groups of eight; each group has its own common. Isolation is provided between the four groups of inputs, however each group of eight inputs is referenced to the same user common connection. Module MDL660 provides seven input filter times. Filter times can be set from the programmer using the module’s assigned output data references. When the module is used in a Series 90-30 system, filter time configuration is enabled by setting a DIP switch on the back of the module. Module MDL660 uses 48 input bits and 8 output bits to exchange point status and filter information with the CPU. This module can be used with either a Box-style (IC694TBB032) or Spring-style (IC694TBS032) front Terminal Block. The Terminal Block is ordered separately. 32 green LEDs indicate the ON/OFF status of points 1 through 32. The red/green TB LED is green when the module’s removable terminal block is locked in place. It is red when the terminal block is not locked. The blue bands on the label show that MDL660 is a low-voltage module. This module can be installed in any I/O slot in a Series 90-30 or PACSystems RX3i system. For CPU compatibility, refer to page 1. Problem: An IC693MDL660A module with corrupted or missing firmware (LEDs will be OFF) can still be scanned by the CPU without any fault messages. Recommendation: Do not rely only on diagnostic fault messages to determine if the module is not operating. 2. Problem (RX3i only): Hot Insertion of an IC693MDL660A module that takes longer than 1 second may result in a System Configuration Mismatch fault. Recommendation: If this happens, remove and re-insert the module. 3. Problem (RX3i only): Firmware updates to the IC693MDL660A may fail, leaving the module in an inoperable condition (LEDs will be OFF). Recommendation: If this happens, power cycle and retry the firmware update. 4. Problem (RX3i only): CPU firmware (release 2.9) does not recognize IC693MDL660A hot insertion or removal when the CPU is in RUN disable mode. Recommendation: Do not hot insert or remove the IC693MDL660A when CPU is in RUN disable mode. 5. Problem (RX3i only): Very rarely, hot insertion/removal of the IC693MDL660A module may result in a Terminal Block loss/add fault message. Recommendation: If this happens, manually check the Terminal Block presence. If the Terminal Block is present and locked, ignore the Terminal Block loss/add fault message. 6. Problem: The IC693MDL660A may become inoperable (LEDs will be OFF) during rapid power cycling. Recommendations: Avoid multiple power cycles of periods less than 1 second. Avoid relay switching of power to PLC. (Relays can bounce creating rapid power cycling) Warning Do not insert or remove the module in Series 90-30 main backplanes, RX3i serial expansion backplanes, or Series 90-30 expansion backplanes with power applied to the backplane. This could cause the PLC to stop or malfunction. Injury to personnel and damage to the module or backplane may result. If the PLC is in RUN mode, I/O data to/from this backplane will not be update while power is removed. Enabling Filter Time Configuration in a Series 90-30 System The MDL660 has one DIP switch on back of the module, which enables or disables filter time configuration from the Series 90-30 CPU. The RX3i ignores the setting of this switch. The module must be removed from the backplane to set the switch. The DIP switch setting must match the selection in the module’s software configuration. If the selection in the software configuration does not match the DIP switch setting, a fault occurs. Input Filter configuration DIP Switch Closed (left) = Enabled Open (right) = Disabled Not used In a Series 90-30 system, the Input Filter DIP switch must be set to Enabled for the CPU to be able to send input filter time configuration to the module. If the Input Filter switch is enabled, the CPU sends 32 bits of data, only 8 bits of which is used by the module. The other 24 bits are ignored. If the Input Filter switch is disabled, no data is sent from the Series 90-30 CPU to the module.
